Last year, the Generation X and Y where very thrilled with the official announcement that a reboot of the well-love science-fantasy Power Rangers are about to be shown in the big screen. Creator Saban Brands is teaming up with Lionsgate to continue the adventure of the Power Rangers in the cinemas.
Last year Lionsgate Chief Executive Officer Jon Feltheimer announced the return of the popular children television series, "The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever."
Unfortunately, a recently released R-rated film inspired by the original Saban Brands Mighty Morphin Power Rangers triggered quite a commotion online. The short film was directed by Joseph Khan and produced by Adi Shankar created a dark spin on the 90's science-fantasy children show. This resulted in several criticisms online for leaning into a quite destructive version of the supposedly child-friendly television series. Some of the fans enjoyed the different kind of spunk the film had but was definitely a disappointment for Saban Brands, the company who owns rights over the Rangers
Although the dispute has been settled and the videos are back online, a disclaimer that the videos are not official is required to be attached on the videos.
This is Joseph Khan's statement about the settlement. "They put these disclaimers on so kids don't confuse our super-violent film with their Power Rangers brand. There are no hard feelings. We signed contracts. We can play it anywhere we want on all platforms. I think they realized that people just want to see it."
Hopefully, the video will not affect the all-star cast remake of the children series set to be released on cinemas this coming July 2016. The movie that will pick up right after the events of the series will star Stay's star Chloe Grace Moretz, Hunger Game's Liam Hemsworth and Meryl Streep who is rumored to play as the villain Rita Repulsa. Other stars that are about to join the movie include Taylor Lautner, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Chung, Roshon Freegan and Jack Gleeson.
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers dominates the cinemas on July 22, 2016.
