Three-time Grammy Award winner Sam Smith and 36 year-old Oscar Award winning singer and songwriter John Legend recently collaborated for a noble cause. The popular duo was set to perform live together for the very first time on March 13 in London at the Comic Relief - Face the Funny special which will be featured in BBC One.
The pair will be performing Smith's hit ballad "Lay Me Down" from his successful Grammy nominated debut album "In This Lonely Hour." The mentioned single was chosen to be the official track of this year's Red Nose Day, which is a biennially held event in the United Kingdom. The said British charity works to help in raising funds for Comic Relief, a major charity which is solely based in the U.K. It has been reported that one hundred-percent of the proceeds from the single will be donated by the singers to Comic Relief.
Regarding their collaboration, the "All Of Me" hit maker stated that "Sam is such a talented artist. We've been looking forward to working together for a while now. I'm so glad we could collaborate on such a great song and for such a great cause."
Smith and Legend had also recently filmed a video in line with this special project which will showcase both talented artists recording the track at a Los Angeles studio. The video will also feature some of the beneficiary communities of the Comic Relief charity.
Smith, who rose to fame in a breakthrough musical collaboration with Disclosure, shared his excitement with the Rolling Stone and said in a recent statement: "I'm extremely proud that my single will help raise money for projects like this and many others in the U.K. and across Africa." He stated that the collaboration with the singer-songwriter John Legend only adds up to his enthusiasm for the project.
The Red Nose Day will be encouraging collective humanitarian help and effort to pour in for the disadvantaged communities in several parts of Africa and the U.K.
