Allegiance Confirms Cancellation: Spy Drama Series Axed after 5 Episodes due to Low Ratings

By

NBC made up their minds that early, as they pulled the plug off the newly started spy drama 'Allegiance'. The cancellation was brought by low ratings ever since it has first aired, it was reported.

The low rated espionage drama 'Allegiance' was cancelled by NBC only after five episodes, Variety confirmed. This cancellation may not be as surprising and disappointing because the show has failed to entice audience, which resulted to low ratings, and it kept on falling.

The show premiered with five million total viewers and 1.1 demo ratings. It kept on falling with each episode and on the day of the last episode the total viewers were 3.4 million with only 0.8 demo rating.

It was told that 'Allegiance' has had a tough time since it was unveiled at the NBC upfront last May. It was then compared to the Emmy award winning FX series The Americans. With that critical reception, NBC slotted 'Allegiance' behind new episodes of their number one drama 'The Blacklist', as part of boosting strategy. This tactic, however, did not turn as expected.

The network's other new show, The Slap, will move to Allegiance's vacated timeslot moving forward. The Slap previously aired on Thursdays at 8 p.m., it will now air at 10 p.m. effective immediately.

NBC is currently promoting "Dateline: The Real Blacklist" hosted by Richard Engel. Dateline airs at 8 p.m. followed by a thriller by James Spader. The network is hoping that backing up 'The Blacklist' with 'The Slap' will help increase their ratings. However, 'The Slap' did not have anything better to offer than Allegiance for the network, a source told.

'Allegiance' starred Gavin Stenhouse as Alex O'Connor, a gifted CIA analyst who, is actually investigating his own family, as his parents Katya (Hope Davis) and Mark O'Connor (Scott Cohen) are undercover, retired Russian spies.
