The trial of Amanda Knox has stretched on for years, and now it's just taken a very strange turn. Knox, the woman who allegedly murdered her British roommate while the two stayed in Italy, has announced her engagement to musician Colin Sutherland. Sutherland, a rock musician, has apparently known Knox for years, and their relationship spans back to when the two were in kindergarten. As well, Sutherland has written to Knox while she was in prison, which certainly must have strengthened their bond.
However, don't expect Knox and Sutherland to immediately settle into a happy home life- an Italian court is ruling on Knox's case on March 25, and will decide whether or not to uphold the most recent conviction of the American student killer. If the courts decide to uphold the conviction, it could be a major hitch in Knox's wedding plans. Right now, Knox is currently residing in the United States and she has said "she would not return willingly to Italy," but if the Italian court rules against her it could but both Italy and the US in an uncomfortable situation.
Apparently, the couple has not set a wedding date yet although Sutherland did move from his home in Seattle to reside in New York instead- presumably, to be with his new fiance.
The trial of Amanda Knox first began in 2007 when her roommate, Meredith Kercher, was found dead in their shared dorm room. Originally, Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison along with two other men who carried out the attack on Kercher, but since then Knox has been aquitted, and then reconvicted of the same crime. It is not know if she'll be convicted again or if she may go free after this latest ruling. Check back soon for the latest updates on Amanda Knox and her ongoing trial.
