'Suicide Squad' to feature Hugo Strange? Will the film follow the 'Batman: Arkham' series?

By

Suicide Squad has plenty of villains already, doesn't it? Technically, almost every single character announced for the film is a DC Comics villain- Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, Joker, Deathstroke, Captain Boomerang and so on. If there's one thing Suicide Squad doesn't need any more of, it's comic book villains.

But according to the latest rumors, Suicide Squad does have another villain coming its way. That villain would be Hugo Strange, the Batman villain best known for being an Arkham Asylum headshrink and for deducing Batman's secret identity (also, losing his mind and becoming obsessed with Batman- that was a pretty big deal, too).

The latest rumors from Cinema Blend claim that Strange will be a part of the film, as a prison psychiatrist for the Joker, who's going to have somewhat of a Hannibal Lecter-type role in the film- an advisor still trapped in prison, and manipulating people from the inside. Would Hugo Strange be one of the characters he'd be manipulating? It seems likely, but we can't know for sure with so little information.

According to the same rumors, there have been no actors up for the role of Hugo Strange and little talk about casting itself, which makes the rumor seem a little less reliable than most. But it's also possible that Warner Bros just hasn't looked into the casting yet. Or, Strange may not be actually seen onscreen, and be much more of a bit part than people think.

With the inclusion of Strange Suicide Squad is starting to look more and more like the Batman: Arkham game series- is it possible that the film might take after the games in tone, or even in story? Both seem to be going dark and gritty, and both feature the Suicide Squad (or its members, at least) in a major capacity. Once the first trailer is released, we'll probably know.

Suicide Squad releases on August 5, 2016.
