'Twin Peaks' reboot not cancelled? David Lynch comments contradict Showtime news

By

Twin Peaks fans probably had a mild heart attack when they heard David Lynch's recent comments about the planned reboot of the series. According to some sources, Lynch had openly stated that he "I don't know. There are complications" in regards to the new Twin Peaks episodes. As well, it was alleged that the new show was "still up in the air." And that the creator was "not sure" of the outcome. Basically, nothing he said implied that the Twin Peaks reboot was actually going to happen.

One more quote- Lynch also stated that "I haven't returned yet and we're still working on the contract, but I love the world of 'Twin Peaks' and I love those characters."

But apparently, all of Lynch's naysaying doesn't mean much, because the series (which will eventually air on Showtime) is going through anyway. A new report confirms that Showtime is still moving forward on the show, that Lynch has written all the scripts for every episode and has signed on to direct every episode, and that star Kyle McLachlan is also set to return in the starring role.

Says one source: "Nothing is going on that's any more than any preproduction process with David Lynch. Everything is moving forward and everybody is crazy thrilled and excited."

If that's the case, then there's no clear reason for why Lynch seemed so uncertain about the series so recently. But then, there's probably no clear reason to worry, either. If Showtime is confident in the series (and, just as importantly, if they've got Lynch locked in to do all the writing/directing duties), then there's really no way the Twin Peaks reboot could fall through.

Now, the only question is whether it'll be any good or not. Although with Lynch involved, chances are it'll definitely be a worthy successor to the classic original series.
