Instead of the planned twice-a-year release of the new versions of their flagship phone unit, Sony has delayed the release of the expected Sony Xperia Z4.
It was around six months ago that the Japanese electronics manufacturer released the Z3 of their flagship smartphone line. Sony released the previous versions of the phone at six-month intervals.
This move is could be taken as a means for the company to give more time for the Z3 to grab its share of the market, and to prepare for a perceived showdown with other high-end smartphone brands. The Z3, so far, has been well received by smartphone users due to its features and interface.
According to unconfirmed sources, the Z4 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 810 with 4GB RAM and an internal storage of 32GB. It's also going to have a 5.5-inch QHD (2560x1440) which will work in onjunction with its new smartphone camea sensor called Exmo RS IMX230 in its 21MP camera. It's expected to have a high-speed autofocus for less blurry picture and high-def video capture.
It's also going to be a 146.3x71.9x7.2mm LTE-ready phone unit. The new Xperia is expectd to follow the same OmniBalance design of its predecessor, a main feature that contributed to its commercial success. According to leaked images, the bezel will be thinner and rounder at the top and the bottom with the power button found somewhere near the right. It will be using a 3420mAH battery as power supply.
The unit is initially available in black, white and yellow.
The smartphone is going to sport the latest Android version at the time of its release, but for now it is safe to assume it will carry the Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The Sony Xperia Z4 is expected to come out sometime around Q3 2015, priced around US$630.
