'Carmageddon: Reincarnation' now given an official release date: What can fans expect?

After wreaking havoc and shocking people two decades ago, the "Carmageddon" franchise makes its triumphant return with its latest installment aptly named "Reincarnation."

The controversial title drew a lot of attention for mixing in the chaotic destruction derby style racing genre with an unconventional rewards system which gave players bonus points depending on how well and how often they were able to mow down pedestrians.

The building blocks of a "Carmageddon" return were first laid down when plans to launch a new title received funding from the website Kickstarter. The funding efforts brought in $625,000 for the title, according to PC Gamer.

Since that time, the only tangible progress made on the title came in the form of "Carmageddon: Reincarnation" going live on Steam Early Access, but now fans can rejoice with a formal launch date being set for the release of the complete game.

"You've been through the Early Access Pre-Alpha, you've been through Beta, and all along the enthusiasm, support and brilliant feedback of the Carmageddon community has been helping to get us to the holy grail... That is The Game... FINISHED OFF," said Stainless Steel Games.

The new game will include 16 chapters and provide over 50 events for players to complete as they progress through the game, according to Gamespot.

Multiplayer mode is also available, with eight players able to compete at the same time either online or through LAN and with six kinds of game modes to choose from such as Car Crusher, Checkpoint Stampede, Classic Carmageddon, Death Race, Fox 'N' Hounds, and Ped Chase.

Players will also have nine maps and 24 different modes of transportation and destruction to choose from. Some of the vehicles in the game include monster trucks and cars with sharp teeth, according to Uproxx.

"Carmageddon: Reincarnation" will be available on the Xbox One, Playstation 4, and the PC.
