The Chinese smart phone maker will be pairing off with Microsoft at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference or WinHEC in Shenzhen earlier this March. This would mean that Xiaomi Mi 4 owners can choose to flash the Windows 10 ROM (as soon as it's released) into their device. The software will be replacing the MIUI operating system (which is Android based).
According to a blog post by Microsoft, "Through the new program with Xiaomi, one of the top smartphone distributors in the world, a select group of Xiaomi Mi 4 power users will be invited to help test Windows 10 and contribute to its future release later this year. These power users will have the opportunity to download the Windows 10 Technical Preview - installing it and providing their feedback to Microsoft."
This statement means that there will be a handful of Xiaomi Mi 4 users who will be selected to test the device powered by Windows 10. And if things would go well, we could expect the Windows 10 powered Mi 4 before this year ends.
However, Xiaomi claims that the partnership is not permanent and will be done as a test to the both the device and Windows 10. In a statement released by Xiaomi, the company had explained that the partnership with Microsoft is a mere experimental program. The situation is not a commercial partnership. Xiaomi will still continue on producing an Android powered device through their MIUI software platform.
March 17, 2015 - Microsoft had announced that they will be launching the Windows 10 this summer. The software will be launched to 190 different countries and in 111 languages which is in response to the company's campaign for globalization.
Microsoft had been partnering with other mobile companies in China like Lenovo and Qihoo 360 in order to promote their product. But the partnership with Xiaomi had caught the media's attention. Why? Because Xiaomi had successful made its mark in the market with its MIUI operating system. The system is easier to use with some tips and tricks.
So do you think Xiaomi will drop MIUI and make its partnership with Microsoft become permanent?
