Captain Marvel, the classic Marvel superhero who's been set for a solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, might be appearing sooner than her official movie- which is slated all the way in 2018. According to the latest rumors, Captain Marvel may actually be appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which means Marvel fans only have to wait a few more months (as Age of Ultron opens in early May) to finally see this beloved hero onscreen.
IGN has the news on this rumor, claiming that Marvel has been working in secret to cast Captain Marvel and ensure she has a cameo appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron. According to the official rumor:
"(The) rumor is that the studio has cast the role of Carol Danvers & keeping it top secret." As well, "we will first see her in #AVENGERS #AgeofUltron as originally written in previous drafts of the screenplay. In terms of the standalone film, the Marvel brain trust has blocked out the plot & story with the intention of bringing an established writer to write the script."
Two other important pieces of Captain Marvel-based news: Jim Starlin, world-famous comic book writer and the writer of a very important comic storyline between Captain Marvel and the cosmic villain Thanos, will be consulting on the film, while Kelly Sue DeConnick, a comic writer known for Captain Marvel comics, is attempting to write the screenplay. Although it should be noted that DeConnick isn't confirmed yet- she's just one of presumably several candidates.
If Marvel has cast Captain Marvel already, it's obviously an extremely well-kept secret, as presumably she's been a part of the script for months and a very long casting process has been going on- all without the public figuring out what's goin on or who she is. But will Marvel be able to keep everything under wraps all the way through the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron?
Captain Marvel will premiere on November 2, 2018.
