Seeing Jason Momoa's half naked body as the new Aquaman in the latest poster released by DC Entertainment created excitement and anticipation to the fans of the superhero. But after a few days, the hyped wear off and were replaces with confusion and curiosity. Why did DC chose a spunky and seemingly dark character for the blue and black costumed character from the comics?
Casting for superhero characters is never a simple and easy task. Several details should be taken in consideration most especially if the production outfit intends to create a series of movies for the character. This is the same process that Jason Momoa had to go through before he was selected for the role. One thing is for sure, Jason Momoa is putting his full trust to director Zack Synder in helping him become the hero that he was expected to be.
It may seem odd to see Arthur Curry as the masculine hero from the Game of Thrones and Conan the Barbarian, but DC wanted to eliminate the notion of having a "wimpy superhero" by getting Momoa. The Native American and Hawaiian heritage Momoa had was considered as a better of version of the Atlantean King of the Sea. This is to be able to catch up with the modern changes that have been implemented with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the DC superheroes.
"You know, I don't know what it's going to be like yet. But I'm in for the long haul, and it's an honor. Zack, you know, he had me at hello; literally when he told me what he wanted to do with the character and what he wanted to do with the world. There's no script yet for certain things, but I listen to his ideas. I trust him. You just got to believe in that," Momoa shared.
A backstory of how the hero Aquaman came to be will most likely be in the plot of the upcoming movie. Aquaman is also expected to be seen in several DC movies to fulfill his destiny in uniting the seven powerful heroes of the Justice League.
A November 2017 release is speculated for the movie.
