Moto X Android 5.1 Lollipop Update: How to update to Android 5.1 in Second Gen Moto X 2014?

By

In September 2014 the second generation Moto X was released to the market and had earned both positive and negative reviews. Engadget reports that the Moto X is "a huge step forward from last year's model." The same mobile review site had noted that the improved OLED screen was one of the best smart phone screens they have seen. However, not everything was positive for the smart phone.

Recent reports had confirmed that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will be made available for Moto X users. The update is in progress for many other mobile phones in the US but the availability is still dependent on the device and the carrier.

Many users believe that the closer a smart phone is to the main provider (which is Google) the faster the software update will be made available. This is true to the case of Nexus 6, Nexus 5, and Nexus 4 handsets which are now getting the Android 5.1 software update. But in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 AT & T users, the mobile is still in its plain bug fixing with the Android 5.0 software.

According to Latin Post, the second generation Moto X (2014), the XDA developers have gotten their hands on the OTA files for the Android 5.1 lollipop and had set it up available for download.

A link was provided by the Android site on how to download the Android 5.1 Lollipop for the second generation Moto X 2014. The link had paved the way for the following instructions in installing the software update. The instruction starts by turning off your Moto X 2014 mobile. Second, you press and hold both volume buttons and the power button to enter the fastboot. Third, you should use the volume down button to scroll down to recovery and then press button up to select it. Then apply the update from ADB and press the power button to confirm. In your computer, open the ADB folder and press shift then right click your mouse to open the Command Window. You need to key in the following command "adb sideload victara_android-5.1 - ota.zip". After ADB had applied the command, restart your handset.
