"The Young and the Restless" is one of the longest airing daytime series on TV. First aired on March 26, 1973, the show has celebrated its 42nd anniversary last Thursday, March 26, 2015.
According to She Knows Soaps, Y&R first started as a half-hour series, replacing the show, "Where the Heart Is" in 1973. The show quickly rose to fame, which led the network to increase its airtime to one hour per episode.
The outlet reported that its first cast included James Mitchell, Joseph Mascolo, Rue McClanahan and Massimo Marone. Now, the Y&R family has grown and includes Kelly Sullivan (Sage Warner), Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman), Robert Adamson (Noah Newman), Sharon Case (Sharon Abbott), Steve Burton (Dylan MacAvoy), Lachlan Buchanan (Kyle Abbott) and Amelia Heinle (Victoria Abbott) among others.
In an interview with CBS2 News, Joshua Morrow and Justin Hartley joked that the cast will be celebrating their 42nd anniversary at The Underground.
"The Young and the Restless" will have interesting twists and revelations in the upcoming episodes of the show. Morrow and Harley also hinted that their characters are bound to take the spotlight as it is a known fact that the brothers are not exactly fans of each other.
Morrow and Hartley also thanked loyal viewers for their continuous support to the show.
"They're so incredibly passionate about what we do... It's amazing to see how much it matters to them that the show is on the air everyday for them to watch," he told the news outlet.
On Friday's episode of Y&R, spoilers hint that Adam and Nick will have an intense confrontation after learning that Nick slept with his wife. There will also be some interesting discoveries about Austin's past after Kevin decrypted Sharon's interview with Austin.
"The Young and the Restless" airs weekdays at 11:30 a.m. on CBS.
