Could Vin Diesel be actually playing another role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? After portraying a well-loved talking tree in Guardians of the Galaxy, the hunk actor has been rumored of joining Marvel's future film Inhumans, scheduled for release in 2019.
In a recent one-minute interview with Esquire, the Furious 7 star was asked which superhero character he preferred: Superman or Batman, to which he replied "Marvel." The next question was then about Marvel's X-Men characters: Wolverine or Cyclops?
"Guardians!" the actor answered while laughing, then immediately changed it, "OK, Black Bolt. Black Bolt, Black Bolt, Black Bolt."
It will be recalled that there have been speculations on Diesel's involvement with Inhumans since last year. Rumors say that the 47-year-old actor would be playing no less than the movie's lead character, Black Bolt the Inhuman King.
Even Diesel himself seemed to have dropped hints that he would star in the future Marvel movie. The actor teased his fans in August when he posted on his Facebook page a photo of Groot, the character he plays in Guardians of the Galaxy, with a caption: "I get the strange feeling Marvel thinks I'm Inhuman... Haha." Months later, he shared yet another photo with a teasing caption, "Are You Inhuman?"
Yet, in an interview with MTV News, the leading man behind The Fast & the Furious franchise apparently deflected the question of whether he would really play a different role in the Marvel Universe.
"Wow. Right for the jugular. You see, Marvel? They ask me these questions!" Diesel said, laughing. "You know, I enjoyed the experience of playing Groot. A lot of it was the great cast, and the genius of James Gunn. But I also enjoyed, you know, entering into the Marvel world. And...Good things will come from that," he added.
While it remains unclear if Diesel will indeed star in Inhumans, the actor nonetheless is kept busy with his current acting endeavors. He is now busy promoting his latest film, Furious 7, which is set to hit theaters April 3. The movie is said to be a tribute to his late co-star and friend Paul Walker, who died in a car accident in 2013.
Diesel will also reprise his role as the crowd favorite Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, which will be released in 2017.
