Praise Odin! 'Vikings' Renewed for Season 4 by the History Channel, announced last Thursday. While the next season's filming begin in Ireland this spring, the show writer/ show runner Michael Hirst is not so shy to tell some spoilers for the forthcoming season. What fans should expect is that the storyline will continue with the storyline of Ragnar's children after Fimmel's character meets his predetermined fate. And, the death of the former monk Athelstan at the hands of Floki.
Writer/show runner Michael Hirst is very hopeful of a fruitful future for the series. In a recent interview with RadioTimes, he revealed that he already has an idea of how he wants the series to advance. "I've written five episodes. We're going to do more episodes this year, I think we're doing 16," Hirst said. "I have a huge hope that we can continue [beyond that]."
Hirst also spoiled some major scenes fans could expect in the upcoming season. One of which is Ragnar's destiny and descendants. The creator explained that he hopes the drama can continue with the storyline of Ragnar's children after Fimmel's character meets his predetermined fate. It was added that his heirs, who are the real historical Viking leaders Ivar the Boneless and Bjorn Ironsides, will be there to continue the journey.
"I always anticipated continuing with Ragnar's sons because many of them became as famous, if not more famous, than he was," Hirst told RadioTimes. "There was the rather remarkably named Ivar the Boneless and Ragnar's elder son [Bjorn, played by Alexander Ludwig] who sailed around the Mediterranean, and then they went to Iceland and Greenland."
Another, the forthcoming season will also unveil the death of the former monk Athelstan. He was born again into Christianity, after many years of internal struggle.
Via Entertainment Weekly, Hirst told, "I realized I would need to resolve Athelstan's major issues. I couldn't have him flip-flopping between one belief and another."
"So there was a logic to [Athelstan's death]. It was a poetical and a plausible and, for me, a great resolution. But at the same time, it was very hard to kill the character off. And to tell George-who has been a huge part of the show, who I think is a wonderful actor, and who's grown during the show," the writer added.
Fans, what do you think of the spoilers for the upcoming season? Are you happy that 'Vikings' Renewed for Season 4?
