Lea Michele's career hasn't spanned much beyond Glee, but maybe now that Glee's over, the actress can take her talents (both dramatic and musical) to a slightly larger venue. Like the movies! Because according to First Showing, Michele has just been cast in a new comedy, titled The Layover.
Which, for just a second, almost sounds like a Hangover spinoff (in this day and age of constant remaking, spin-offing and expanded universes, that would not be surprising news). It's not though. The Layover is its own movie, and according to First Showing it's a romantic comedy about two "lifelong best friends who decide to avoid their problems by taking a vacation only to find that their plane has been rerouted due to a hurricane warning." So they end up stuck at the airport, which would be fine... except both women fall head over heels for the same guy while waiting around at the St. Louis airport.
Starring as the other friend will be model Kate Upton, while actor William H. Macy will direct. The script will be handled by David Hornsby and Lance Krall, two writers best known for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Says Macy about the idea of directing Lea Michele and Kate Upton: "The minute I met Lea and Kate, the film began to focus for me. They are singular, ambitious funny women in full. This is going to be fun."
Will it be, though? First Showing brings up an important point, and that's Kate Upton's acting abilities... which aren't exactly top notch. Her performance in The Other Woman wasn't exactly critically acclaimed. Still with a script from some of the same minds as It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (which has remained consistent- and consistently funny- through ten seasons), it's more likely The Layover could be a hit.
What do you think? Willing to give Upton and Lea Michele a chance at comedy?
