Samsung has never failed to amuse its fans with its novelty features. The Korean smart phone manufacturer has been making its waves in the market with its devices that offer never before seen feats like the Galaxy Note Edge with a side panel. Samsung together with LG has been challenging the design market ever since.
According to a report made by Business Korea, Samsung and LG will be providing the market with two new types of technologies. LG will be developing a device with transparent displays while Samsung will be developing a device with foldable displays.
This report was supported by a statement from an unidentified Samsung Display executive which says that the industry believes that the commercialization of foldable smart phones will be available in 2016. The report also notes that the stages of flexible display technology evolution have been defined as curved, bended, foldable, and rollable. Samsung had successfully completed the first two stages and will now try to accomplish the foldable part.
Focusing on Samsung's goal, what is this foldable display?
The foldable display is likened to a paper which even if folded will still continue on producing the same picture quality. The goal of this technology is to display images as accurately as possible and maximize its portability by making the device as light as possible.
Samsung is currently developing displays which are foldable and will be featured in specific smartphones as soon as 2016. The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy Note 6 are the closest candidates to carry the said feature.
Samsung might be trying to catch up with the trend. Especially in this era, flexible displays are being used in the smart phones and wearable devices like watches. This technology is aimed to invade the whole Information Technology industry which includes but not limited to laptops and monitors.
According to a statement from an official in the industry, "When flexible technology is being used in e-books and laptops, which are substituted for publications, the concept of tiny portable PCs and e-books will be realized in reality."
And we can be certain that Samsung is headed in that direction.
