George R.R. Martin Prioritizes ’Winds of Winter’ over ‘Game of Thrones’: Sought-After Writer To Produce ‘Wild Cards’ Movie, Conceptualizing 3 HBO Shows

George R.R. Martin has a writer's block that's why he will stop writing for season 6 of 'Game of Thrones'? Nah, the prolific novel writer announced on his website that his priority at the moment is to finish writing 'Winds of Winter.' Before saying no to season 6, the 67-year old already excused penning season 5 which may be GoT viewers lost but his avid readers gain.

On his blog post, Martin stated that he's currently putting all his energy on Winds of Winter. However, the author also shared that he's also working on edits of 'Wild Cards' volume particularly 'High Stakes.' In fact, he also hints that he's going to produce a Wild Cards film which he's dealing with Universal and conceptualizing three HBO shows.

"When I say, "my plate is full," I don't just mean with WINDS. I am still editing the latest Wild Cards volume, HIGH STAKES. I have an overall deal with HBO, and three new television concepts in various stages of development, with a variety of collaborators and partners. I am consulting on a couple of videogames. There's the Wild Cards movie at Universal, where I'm a producer. And I've recently formed a new production company to make low budget short films based on a trio of classic short stories by... well, no, not yet, that would be telling. Premature telling," Martin revealed.

Apart from crossing out writing Game of Thrones, Martin will not attend at San Diego Comic-Con and the World Fantasy Convention in Saratoga Springs, New York as well. According to Huffington Post, one possible reason why it's Martin's mission to finish his novel is GoT's timeline. It's speeding up that it somehow may overtake something he's not writing yet in his novel.

"I've decided not to script an episode for season six of GAME OF THRONES. Writing a script takes me three weeks, minimum, and longer when it is not a straight adaptation from the novels. And really, it would cost me more time than that, since I have never been good at changing gears from one medium to another and back again. Writing a season six script would cost me a month's work on WINDS, and maybe as much as six weeks, and I cannot afford that," Martin shared on his website.

Show's co-creator David Benioff also revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that they talked with Martin about how's story will end so they can plan GoT's future well. Meantime, series other boss D.B. Weiss added that they may finish the series in seven or eight years because they don't believe in dragging out the story for the sake of just extending it.

"Last year we went out to Santa Fe for a week to sit down with him [Martin] and just talk through where things are going, because we don't know if we are going to catch up and where exactly that would be. If you know the ending, then you can lay the groundwork for it. And so we want to know how everything ends. We want to be able to set things up. So we just sat down with him and literally went through every character," HBO series creator David Benioff shared with VF.

"I can give them the broad strokes of what I intend to write, but the details aren't there yet. I'm hopeful that I cannot let them catch up with me," George said.
