Sony recently announced the official launch of "Playstation Music," the new app emerging as the fruit of the company's joint venture together with Spotify.
The new app is now available on both the Playstation 3 and 4 in 41 different markets.
"Playstation Music" will be downloaded automatically as soon as the console is turned on, according to IGN. The good news is that people don't need to have a premium Spotify account or a subscription to PlayStation Plus in order to gain access to the app.
For now though, users who want to enjoy their musical experiences without being interrupted by advertisements can pay to have a premium account for the app.
"PlayStation Music" will give users access to an enormous musical library.
For now, the library contains upwards of 30 million songs and 1.5 billion playlists, according to the Official Playstation Blog.
PlayStation Network users can also opt to link their accounts to Spotify and use that to purchase premium service. The total for doing so would be $9.99.
Sony Network Entertainment Vice President Eric Lempel issued a statement regarding the functionality of "PlayStation Music."
"PS4 users can soundtrack their gaming sessions with their favorite songs. To make controlling your music even easier, PS4 and PS3 users will be able to take advantage of the Spotify Connect feature on the official Spotify app for Android/iOS. You can select a playlist, skip songs, adjust the volume and more," said Lempel.
All this means is that the new app can play songs in the background even while a game is running, according to Cinema Blend.
As for the look of the app, it has the modern, stylized look emblematic of many programs being released today, but the good news is the interface itself is easy to pick up and work with.
"PlayStation Music" may soon be coming to Xperia smartphones, but no official announcement has been made on the matter.
