There is no way you would want to miss this birthday celebration. One of China's biggest success stories recently and one who muscled its way to become one of the top five biggest smartphone producer in the world, Xiaomi is celebrating its 5th birthday by April 6th with a bang, catching everybody's attention with the announcement of a slew of new product offerings.
Already, Forbes is heralding the arrival of the first smartwatch from the Chinese tech giant plus the birthday celebration looks all set with an early announcement of Xiaomi Mi Note Pink Edition, Xiami Mi 4 2GB variant, and Redmi 2A product offerings.
Smartphones Galore
Predictably, one of China's biggest smartphone manufacturer is celebrating its 5th year introducing not one but a handful of smartphones.
For a more feminine appeal, it starts with the Pink version of the Xiaomi Mi note dubbed as the "Mi Note Pink Edition". However that's about it, no added specs for boasting.
However, what is becoming obvious in its recent offerings is Xiaomi's trust to further strengthen its hold on the low-cost market.
For instance, this time around the Chinese tech giant is showcasing Xiaomi 4 with 2GB RAM lowered from the 3GB original. The result: a lot cheaper product at 1,699 Yuan ($274) a notch lower than the original price of $290.
Also introduced is the budget-friendly Redmi 2A complete with a 599 Yuan price tag which translates to roughly $96.65.
Still this Redmi is tough to beat as it carries a 1.5GHz Leadcore LC1860 quad-core CPU with a Mail T628MP2 GPU with a 4.7-inch 720p display, 4G LTE, dual-SIM and a 2,200 mAh battery.
Upping the ante in its TV market, Xiaomi is also introducing the 4K 55-inch Mi TV 2 model edging its last 40-inch offering.
Utilizing a Samsung RGB LCD panel and powered by a 1.4GHz, quad-core Cortex A17 processor amped with 2GB RAM and 8GB storage, this latest TV offering boasts top sound experience with its wireless 8-speaker soundbar and Dolby MS12 virtual surround sound.
It may not be ultra cheap at 4,999 Yuan ($806) but it's going to give every competitor in the same market a run for their money, that's for sure, androidAuthority reports.
Entering the Smartwatch Market
Not too long ago, in July 2014, Xiaomi introduced the $13 Mi Band which may not as stunning as Fitbit Flex or JawBone Up but at is most competitive at $13.
Recently, Lei Jun's Xiaomi may be bent on invading the smartwatch market as it jolted everybody with the unveiling of a handful of products on its online forum in time for its March 31 Fan Festival.
As reported on Forbes, one of the products showcased is a smartwatch that comes in a round display and brushed metal build.
What is noteworthy about this wearable tech is it runs not on Google's Android Wear but on a customized version of MiUI, Xiaomi's own operating system.
Apple vs "Apple of China"
To note, the Chinese company dubbed as the "Apple" of China has risen to the top via its smartphone business - most remarkably its Mi smartphones.
But lately it has jumped with gusto into a host of product lines - the $13 fitness Band Mi, blood pressure monitor and smart TV including.
However, a lot of Apple fans are not too happy about Xiaomi's aggressive adventures alleging that the Chinese behemoth has been aping a handful of the Apple's products.
With its latest venture into the smartwatch, the stage could be set for a classic battle for market supremacy as the Cupertino-based company is launching its Apple Watch by April 24.
