'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' February release date confirmed; Sequel to follow 'Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters?'

By

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has just shambled its way into an official premiere date. According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming horror/comedy/romance film will be released on February 19, 2016.

Is that too long to wait for that incredible yet confusing combination of Jane Austen period romance and zombie-slaying mayhem? Yeah, it probably is. But it'll be worth the waiit, as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has a pretty terrific cast. The lead will be played by Lily James (see recently in the Disney update of Cinderella), with roles also filled by Doctor Who's Matt Smith, plus Jack Huston and Game of Thrones stars Lena Headey and Charles Dance (who play Cersei and Tywin Lannister, respectively).

There's no trailer yet for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (heck, there are barely any photos from the film- the one above is one of the rare few) but when that trailer hits, expect the Internet to fall into an uproar over this bizarre mashup movie.

And it's likely that the success of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will lead to a long string of films- and even an expanded universe, perhaps (after all, nearly every movie under the sun is getting one of those right now. The original novel- not Pride and Prejudice, but Pride and Prejudice and Zombies- is part of a surprisingly large genre of classic history/modern horror mashups. There'a also Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (which was also made into a movie), plus Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. Also, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has its share of written sequels- a sequel and a prequel novel have already been written.

All we need is for this film to be a hit, and we can finally see a touching romance between woman and tentacled sea creature as it's meant to be seen- on the big screen.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is set to premiere February 2016.
