The alleged news regarding the 911 GT2 not being released was reported via Car and Driver in Geneva. The claim was that the alleged car will no longer be released since the company believes that the 911 GT3 RS is hardcore enough and could fulfill the role.
But according to the interview conducted by Autocar, Andreas Preuninger (manager at Porsche High Performance Cars) had claimed that Porsche will be definitely be releasing its 911 GT2 RS but not as soon as fans would expect. It was also noted from his interview that fans may expect a 2018 release for the next power house. He also added that the car would be ready to be made public once 911 facelift approaches its due time. This would mark the readiness for the GT2.
However, other reports would claim that the Porsche 911 GT2 RS will be released this year at the September IAA Frankfurt Auto Show.
As you will note, the report regarding the release and the cancelled release was made by the same person, Andreas Preuninger.
Sure, with the hype about the 911 GT2 RS others may wonder what is to be expected from the said car.
The previous GT2 is considered as the purest sports car in the planet, according to Motor Authority. It could generate to as much as 620 horsepower. The newer model is expected to have the same numbers with regards to performance. However, it would be most likely that the standard manual transmission will be replaced by PDK dual clutch unit. Its engine would most likely be a twin turbocharged version of the new 4.0 liter flat six which is making its debut in the latest GT3 RS.
