Amid rumors that he will be a part of the cast in the TV miniseries "Empire", former Scandal star Columbus Short announced that he is into something big which would bridge his music and acting career. The "Scandal" alum acknowledged the rumors that he may be appearing on the second season of "Empire".
"Big things are happening," Columbus Short said. "I'm going to be bridging my music career with my acting career." In an interview with E! Online, Short would not officially confirm his casting to "surprise" fans. He said, "I'm just saying it wouldn't be a shock."
Short is doing a promotional tour of his indie movie thriller "The Girl Is in Trouble" where he stars as August, an aspiring deejay who finds himself thrown into the middle of the murder of a drug dealer friend. According to Columbus Short he can easily relate to his character, especially considering his spirations as an artist which is to make it big in showbusiness. "He was willing to struggle for his dream and I think a lot of artists will identify with that," he said.
Directed and co-written by newcomer Julius Onah and produced by Spike Lee, "The Girl Is in Trouble" also stars Wilmer Valderrama, Alicja Bachleda and Jesse Spencer ("Chicago Fire"). Meanwhile, Columbus Short also talked about his sudden exit in "Scandal". He admitted that he missed being in the show. "I won't lie," he says. "I do miss it. I miss it a lot."
Short said he missed working in "Scandal" so much that he cannot even bear to watch the show. "I completely avoid it. I support it, but it's like being an injured football player on the sidelines." Short's character in "Scandal" was killed off the show when he had a run-in with the law after getting into a bar fight followed by a nasty divorce from his wife.
However, Short admits that he would gladly return to the show if he was asked. "It's like breaking up with your girlfriend...It's like, 'Oh, man, let's just hook up a couple of more times,'" he said. Access Hollywood Live previously reported that Columbus Short troubles started because of his cocaine and alcohol abuse problem.
Short claimed that he is now clean after he moved to Atlanta to focus on his music. "I'm not only back but it's about to be a problem for Hollywood because we're going to go big," he said. "I'm excited, but I'm also humbled and grateful."
