You'd think Frozen 2 would be a slam dunk, right? Not so much. The sequel to the mega-popular mega-profitable Disney film has recently been fighting a nasty string of rumors that the film could potentially cancelled. Recent reports question the possibility of stars Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell returning to voice their characters- Princess Elsa and Princess Ana, respectively- in the next installment of the Frozen franchise.
But which other characters might return for another round of magical winter adventures? Most likely, Josh Gad will be along for the sequel, as his character, Olaf, was one of the most popular in the film by far (as proof, just look at the thousands of various toy Olafs that still line every toy shelf in the country). As well, it's extremely likely that Jonathan Groff will return to play Kristoff, love interest to Ana. Their relationship is likely one of the elements that's going to see a major development in the next film.
CNN recently spoke to Gad about his role in the upcoming film, and while he's not allowed to say much (pretty much par for the course these days), he did have a few choice quotes to share with the Frozen-loving public. First, when asked what, specifically, he was allowed to say about the upcoming sequel, here's what Gad revealed:
"Only that there will be a "Frozen 2." You heard it here second!"
Ok, not too much. But later, Gad elaborated just a little bit on his now world-famous snowman role.
"What "Frozen" did so well was it told a simple story through a new prism."
"There aren't many movies I can show my kids, and I have two daughters, that are about the strong bond between siblings. That's an aspect of "Frozen" that I think sets it apart. The idea of true love being presented differently than how it has been before is another reason, the songs are so unbelievably catchy... and actually I think what it all boils down to is Olaf."
There's no releasedate yet for Frozen 2, but stay tuned for future updates, and we'll see if the film can stay afloat without being cancelled.
