'Furious 7' & 'Back to the Future' crossover likely to happen? Sequel, expanded universe rumors with April Fools trailer

By

This year's online April Fools was a little on the weak side (seems like the novelty of every-website-pulls-an-Internet-prank is starting to wear thin), but if there was one prank video worth watching, it was absolutely the spoof trailer for a Back to the Future/Furious 7 crossover.

The teaser was incredible- first, showing the classing DeLorean flaming tire marks, with a deep-voiced voiceover about all things past and future. Eventually, we get the real tease- shots of a DeLorean blasting into the future, interspersed with shots of Vin Diesel in the driver's seat. The title? Fast to the Future.

Pretty perfect, right? Also, probably impossible. At least that's how it would seem... but Fast to the Future might not be as impossible as its April Fools prank status would have you believe.

For one, there's a convenient tie between the two. Both franchises are made by Universal Pictures, which makes things pretty easy when creating a crossover- at least from a legal perspective. No long negotatiating periods, like what Sony and Marvel had to go through when getting Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Also, there's two extra facts- it's been years since the last Back to the Future movie, and it's not like Hollywood to leave any franchise un-remade after so many years. Plus, there's the fact that the Fast & Furious franchise is about to make a boatload of money with Furious 7, which is cleaning up the box office this weekend and is poised to do the same for several weeks afterward, most likely. Hollywood's also loving the whole 'expanded universe' thing right now, and if ever a franchise was lucrative enough to earn one, it's Fast and Furious.

Might not be the most likely thing in the world, but hey, you never know. Weirder things have certainly happened.
