The Fast & Furious franchise is doing just fine right now- Furious 7, the latest film in the series, is due out this week, and is set to clear more than $100 million in its opening weekend. Which is almost a guarantee (ok, it basically is a guarantee) that we'll be getting at least one more Fast & Furious movie in a couple of years.
And star Tyrese Gibson is already thinking about his dream cast for Fast & Furious 8 (or Furious 8, or 8 Fast, 8 Furious- whatever it ends up being called). Gibson recently spoke to Cinema Blend about the latest Fast & Furious film, where he rattled off a few names he'd love to work with in the all-but-confirmed eigth installment. Names like Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington... and Matt Damon.
Apparently, Matt Damon's his #1 pick, to the point where Gibson already has a basic plot outline for a Damon-starring Fast & Furious 8 in his head. Apparently, the film would open with a flashback to Gibson's character, Roman Pearce, growing up in a foster home with his dearly close friend- who would grow up to be Matt Damon's character. But tragic circumstances would separate the two, and while Roman ended up becoming a street racer, Damon's character would end up being a military supersoldier.
Eventually, they'd reconnect (obviously), when Roman falls on hard times and needs a gun-toting Matt Damon to help him out.
It's also been noted that both the Fast & Furious franchise and the Bourne franchise are housed at Universal, so it's entirely possible that the two franchises could come together for a double feature or a crossover of some kind. Maybe a Fast & Furious/Bourne cinematic universe? Stranger things have happened. And Gibson has apparently been pushing for Damon to be cast for two years now- so it might very well happen.
