"Frozen 2" is not happening, yet. The movie sequel may have been officially announced to be on the works in the recent Walt Disney Company's annual shareholder event, but the movie is not hitting the cinema screens soon. A 2018 release is rumored to be the earliest possible release for the sequel of the movie.
A shot theater screening for the Frozen Fever, inspired from the movie Frozen was introduced during the opening of Cinderella's in theaters last weekend but this seems to be insufficient for fans of the movie series. Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck even confirmed that a sequel for the movie is not happening anytime soon.
"It's been in the press that we are doing it, and we would ask each other, are we? They'd have a date and they'd have a cast and it was like, OK, according to Jennifer Lee. It looks like a script for the movie is not yet available or has not even been conceptualized at the moment.
"It all comes down to the story," according to Buck. "One year ago, it was a lot to even think about doing a short. We were quite tired. We don't really know what it's like to stop for a minute and think about what we want to do next," he continued.
On the lighter note, "Frozen 2" is predicted to be capable of setting a new box office record upon its release. The first movie has a total of $1.27 billion worldwide including an impressive $873.5 million coming from the international market. The film is also considered as the highest-grossing animated film of all time and the fifth biggest movie over-all in the US cinemas. The upcoming sequel on the other hand can actually reach $1.5 billion in box office revenues worldwide. The current Disney hype is more than enough to bring the second Frozen movie to box-office records.
On the other hand, it also rumored that the delay of the movie is intentional to be able to give way to a line-up of live movie adaptations of our classic Disney characters just like the upcoming Beauty and the Beast movie.
