'Battlefield 2' modders back to work with plans to create new 50v50 first person shooter

The group of modders behind "Project Reality" for "Battlefield 2" is coming back to give gamers a new kind of first person shooter with their planned 50v50 model.

The ambitious 50v50 shooter is named "Squad," and it has already been listed on Steam Greenlight.

It seems as though the planned massive shooter is a popular one. Over 21,000 people have already voted for the game, and if it does indeed become a reality, then the game would in all likelihood be available through Steam, according to Gamespot.

In the game, players will form squads containing up to nine players, and from there, separate squads can band together to get the total number of people on a single team up to a mind-boggling amount of 50. If the number 50 seems a little high, it's no accident. The developer intentionally wants players to truly engage one another and foster fluid and efficient communication, according to PC Gamer.

"Squad is an online, team-based military themed first-person-shooter where high levels of teamwork are crucial to success," said the development team.

Aside from putting a premium on teamwork, "Squad" also intends to include a bundle of features designed to make the game even more enjoyable than before.

It is expected to feature realistic firing, sensible damage physics, and it even gives great importance to medic play to truly drive the point home that this is a game simulating what it would be like to be out there on the frontlines engaging the enemy, according to Kotaku.

"Project Reality" became such a hit because of how devoted it was to keeping the action as real as it could possibly be, and unsurprisingly, the follow up effort from the team behind that game is looking to do the same for "Squad."

"Squad" will reportedly begin pursuing development funds through a crowdfunding site sometime in the next few months.

The expected release date for "Squad" is early 2016.
