After 'Mocking Jay 2, Lionsgate Taps 'Hunger Games' Team to Film New Adaptation of Greek Mythology Book 'Odyssey'?

Next journey for 'Hunger Games' team is new 'Odyssey' movie? Reportedly, almost the entire creative team of the film franchise are cast to do an adaptation of classic Homer's book. Is possible that Liam Hemsworth play the titular role and Jennifer Lawrence acts as Penelope?

If Deadline's story is true, people behind 'Mocking Jay Part 2' has sure employment after the release of Hunger Games last installment on November 20. The entertainment website divulged that Lionsgate tapped Peter Craig to do the script and Francis Lawrence to be project's filmmaker. To complete the team, they also appointed Nina Jacobson to lead the production.

Deadline added that the concept came from Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig. He shared his idea with Lawrence while they're still shooting Mocking Jay in Paris. They also informed that Lionsgate is planning to start filming first quarter of 2016. As for actors, no details yet whether JLaw, Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson will appear in the film.

Homer's Odyssey or 'Ulysses' tell the story of a Greek warrior, who took ten-year journey before reuniting with his wife Penelope and son Telemachus. He was test by Poseidon and Athena in his voyage, while his beautiful wife pestered by few suitors. Prior to Lionsgate's rumored project, Kirk Douglas already did the movie 'Ulysses' in 1954 and in 1997, Armand Assante top billed made-for-TV movie 'The Odyssey.' In 2004, Sean Bean portrayed the character in the film 'Troy' starring Brad Pitt (played Achilles), Eric Bana (Hector) and Orlando Bloom (Paris).

Featuring stories based on Greek Mythology emerge from time to time like Percy Jackson and the Olympians' and 'Clash of the Titans' film series. Going back to Lawrence's directorial career, he may pull it off as apart from 'Hunger Games,' he's also the man behind 'Constantine (2005), 'I am Legend' (2007) and 'Water for Elephants' (2011). These three were adapted from bestselling reading materials.
