John Singleton Leaves ‘Tupac’ Biopic, Says ‘They have no true love for Pac’

John Singleton announced that he is officially vacating the director's chair for the Tupac Shakur biopic. Singleton, who worked with Shakur in 1993, said that the people who are working on the movie have "no true love for Pac."

"The reason I am not making this picture is because the people involved aren't really respectful of the legacy of Tupac Amaru Shakur," wrote Singleton on his Instagram account.

Singleton, who has previously worked with Shakur in the 1993 film "Poetic Justice," has officially dropped his directorial role for the "Tupac" biopic. Singleton has previously been recruited to direct the movie in 2014 after falling off the project in 2012.

"Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with," Singleton previously told Variety.

Singleton said that he was deeply affected when he found out about his passing away and insisted that Shakur's story was one that is important in his generation.

This might be in connection with Singleton's resignation as director for the film, as he continued to explain on his Instagram post that Shakur was more than a hip hop artist: "He was a black man guided by his passions ... Of most importance was his love of black people and culture ... Something the people involved in this movie know nothing about..."

Singleton also claimed that he chose to take himself off from the project because the people who are working on the biopic have "no true love" for Shakur. The "Boyz In The Hood" star also announced that he would be working on a separate movie, which fully embodies the life and personality of Shakur.

Meanwhile, Carl Franklin is reportedly replacing Singleton as director of the "Tupac" biopic, Variety reported in a separate article. According to the outlet, Franklin and the rest of the cast will begin shooting in August or September.
