At 71, Barry Manilow married his longtime manager Garry Kief. The secret ceremony reportedly took place last year.
The Copacabana singer exchanged vows with his manager and lover at Palm Springs home in California. The couple decided to keep the event extremely private with only 20 to 30 people to witness the ceremony, reported National Enquirer.
The celebrators were in for a surprise as they were told that they would just be partaking a lunch only to be part of one of the legendary singer's most important moments. Although no papers were signed during the wedding, the longtime partners now wear their wedding bands.
'It was a total surprise,' a friend tells the publication.
A source told People that Barry and Garry shares a strong bond and that they have been each other's strength for a long time now.
"They have a great relationship. Garry has always been there for Barry."
"It's a beautiful love affair that has lasted more than 30 years," a friend to the entertainer told National Enquirer.
Although this may come as a surprise especially to the millions of women who adore him, a source revealed that Barry never intended to hide his sexuality.
"He's at a point now where he's got his career and personal life in a great place and he really doesn't care what people think," the source says. "He's in love and happy."
The singer's sexuality has been a subject of rumors over the years but he made no comments nor made any public confessions, reported Daily Mail.
He admitted that he is a very private guy and is very selective of the people that he lets into his world.
"You can only come into my world if I invite you in. From the very beginning that was the rule. I learnt how to deal with the publicity/press thing. You just say, 'I'm not interested in talking about [that],' he said. 'That's the only way I can survive...... I don't want strangers knowing everything. If that happened, that would drive me crazy."
