'Alien 5' Update: Will Neill Blomkamp proceed without Sharlto Copley?

By

Fox has finally confirmed the coming of Alien 5 movie and rumors have it that Sharlto Copley is cast to play a major role in the film.

Back in January of this year, Neill Blomkamp, co-writer and director of the wildly successful District 9 movie shared some artworks about the Alien movie franchise. He said that his works on the said movie is nowhere near official as Fox does not even have an idea that he's working on it. A couple of months later and Blomkamp announced that his next film would be the fifth installment in the Alien franchise.

Last year, Sigourney Weaver has expressed interest in creating another Alien film. After the posting of the concept arts by Blomkamp, Weaver came out and said that she is interested. "If something happens from this, it would be very organic and very original, and because of that, it would make me want to do it. If it was someone as talented as Neill, I'd certainly listen," said Weaver while doing an interview for a different alien film. Weaver has a supporting role in Blomkamp's latest movie Chappie.

Now that Fox has greenlighted the project, another name is being thrown into the mix; that of Sharlto Copley. The South African actor played the role of Wikus van der Merwe in District 9 and has been pretty much involved in all of Blomkamp's movies including Chappie. He also had a large role in the movie Elysium.

The fact that Blomkamp and Copley are friends and have been known to team up on science fiction movies that resulted in great success has done nothing to quell the rumors that Copley will be on Alien 5. In a recent interview though, Copley maintained that he has not been casted for any role in the upcoming movie. "At the moment, no. I'm not in the Aliens (sequel)," said Copley. "But I'm super-excited he's doing it, and it's surreal to get to see him do something with a franchise that, for him and I, was one of our favorite all-time franchises."
