Motorola recently rolls out Android 5.1 Lollipop updates for Moto G Google Play and many expect Moto X and Moto E follow shortly.
Moto G Google Play android updates was released via Over-the-Air hence Moto users need not look for a factory icon to appear on screen. For as long as the device is a Moto G GPE then one can just proceed to the device's "Settings", click on "About Phone" and check of the update prompt is there and ready. If the prompt isn't there yet, then a few hours of wait should suffice for all devices to receive the update. One source reports that the wisdom behind the staggered release is to ascertain that Motorola and Google deliver the upgrades in full.
On the other hand, good news for Motorola users across the globe for recently the company publishes a support page detailing Android 5.1 Lollipop for several Motorola units even for first-generation and second-generation models. These models include Moto X, Moto G, Moto G 4G LTE, DROID Turbo, DROID Maxx, DROID Mini and Moto E.
However, despite these announcements, Motorola remains unclear if not silent as to the exact dates of these updates. Many speculates that the Moto G Google Play updates roll out is still at the beta stage and the company is still doing a soak test. In fact, David Schuster, Motorola's software product manager announces on his Google+ page that Moto G 4G LTE, first-generation Moto X, and Moto E models found at several regions will skip the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrades and proceed directly to Android 5.1.
"Given the improvements in Lollipop 5.1, we have decided to move all efforts to upgrade these devices directly from KitKat to Lollipop 5.1," explains Schuster.
This scenario may be at Motorola's advantage. According to a source, when Google released KitKat upgrades last year many bugs were discovered that are claimed to be fixed by 5.0.1 and 5.0.2. To move pass this case, Motorola decides to skip 5.0, 5.0.1, or 5.0.2 and proceed directly to 5.1.
