Apple iOS 8.3 Launch: Wireless CarPlay, Expanded Emoji and More; Downloading Issues Encountered

By

Finally it's here, Apple iOS 8.3. The third major update to iOS 8 is upon us, sweeping the Apple Universe in stride. After a string of seeding to developers and public beta testers starting February, every iOS fan will soon experience nifty security features and improvements.

For starters, this upgrade puts a lot of attention into emoji improvements, organizing them into categories via an emoji picker and making available a truckload of new emoji with expanded options - even an emoji skin tone modifier. Added to this, you get every conceivable phone, computer and watch emoji that reminds you of the iPhone, iMac and Apple Watch respectively.

And yet, several issues are brought to light, things that could very well be a good starting point for further improvements.

Cool Features

For wireless fanatics, wireless Carplay feature of the upgrade should be heaven-sent as it allows Apple fans to connect their CarPlay systems and iPhones without using Lightning cable bringing added comfort while driving, as reported on appleinsider.

Added to this, you get cool support for Google two-factor authentication allowing you to add Google accounts sans app specific passwords.

And yes, you get Apple Pay support for your China UnionPay network.

On your iPhone 6 Plus, you can now make use of a widened bold/italics/underline key for formatting text instead of just the bold feature.

And a Slew More

And more, for photo fans, iCloud Photo Library is optimized allowing it to work with the new Photos app on OS X 10.10.3.

Also you get your improved pronunciations on street names when you're doing a turn-by-turn navigation.

And it's becoming more global too as you get additional language support for Siri on more languages namely: English (India, New Zealand), Danish (Denmark), Dutch (Netherlands), Portuguese (Brazil), Russian (Russia), Swedish (Sweden), Thai (Thailand), Turkish (Turkey).

For dictation, you even get Arabic now and Hebrew.

From the looks of it, Apple iOS 8.3 roll-out is sailing on fine, according to MacRumors.

Encountering Downloading Issues

However, as in any man-made update, issues sprout.

As reported on GottaBeMobile, installing the iOS 8.3 update OTA(over the air) could be a huge disappointment as installations - in this instance the iPhone 5 - could take over an hour with mixed signals as estimated time of completion fluctuated from two minutes to an hour.

Doing a system reboot could be your best option to negate this installation problems.

Of course, you can also choose to do it over iTunes which should take your iOS 8.3 update about 12 hours to download.
