Microsoft Surface Pro 4 vs. MacBook 2015 - that is the scenario we can expect when Microsoft launches its version of an ultraportable notebook this July to compete with the super-slim new MacBook, according to a report cited by Gotta Be Mobile.
The Surface Pro 4 which will run on Windows 10 is said to come in two variants: one 12-inch and one 14-inch display. The 12-inch model will boast of a 2K resolution screen display with 2,160 x 1,440 pixels and will be fan-less. The 14-inch variant will have Intel i5 and i7 as processors while the 12-inch version will be powered by new Intel SoC.
The Surface Pro 4 could offer of up to a maximum of 1 TB of internal memory. The new MacBook packs a maximum of 512 GB of storage. The Pro 4's RAM specification is said to be twice the new MacBook's 8 GB RAM. If the Surface Pro 4 will have the Windows 10 on-board, the MacBook 2015 has OS X Yosemite.
In terms of price and release date, the Surface Pro 4 will apparently cost from $1,200 to $2,000 and will be out in the market in July. The MacBook 2015, on the other hand, is already available in the US market starting today with shipping times of 1-3 days, except 512 BG Gold model which has a shipping time of 3-4 weeks.
Until now, the port configuration of the new MacBook is seen as a crucial point. Will Microsoft follow or stick with the traditional multiple USB ports for notebook? According to Ars Technica, "Apple was showing off a couple of things that split the Type C port into a few different, more conventional ports made possible by Type C's support of multiple protocols."
While the Surface Pro 4 is basically a concept now, it won't be long until something "concrete" information comes. One indication that a new device in the Surface line is coming is the recent price cut of $100/$150 on Surface 3.
Between Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and MacBook 2015, which will emerge victorious? It's early to tell now as both will have to go through series of hands-on reviews. But it does sound good news that a reliable company like Microsoft is targeting Apple's market by providing the same specs at a lower price.
