The critically acclaimed and widely anticipated Season 5 of Game of Thrones premiers tonight, April 12. Many are at least curious, if not highly fanatical how their favourite characters turns up, what new storylines the series offers, what new ploys and deceit will the characters face and ultimately, who will rise as victor in the end.

Recently, episodes 1-4 of the new season are released. On the opening episode, Jon Snow gets ready for a suicide mission to kill Mance Rayder in order to salvage his brother from Castle Black. Initially, Jon is able to keep the odds at his favour but he is certain that it does not take long before his Night Watch brothers are vanquished but he needs to fulfill this do-or-die mission. However, when all everything seems to fail, Stannis Baratheon arrives to save Jon Snow and his crew. This is the first time Snow meets the mighty Baratheon and occasional showdowns are expected from then. Moreover, there is a mysterious lady in red named Melisandre that gives Jon that fiery stare.

Daenerys Targaryen becomes emotional and dramatic after she discovers that her dragons are roasting children to eat them. She makes a drastic decision to unveil her "breaker of chains" mark in order to lock two of her fire breathers to ascertain the safety of the people from her conquered city. The choice is a tough one for Daenerys as it saddens her terribly that may weaken her emotionally and physically; moreover, keeping the dragons locked makes her vulnerable and impaled on her plans of conquering Westeros.

One of the highlights of the first four episodes of Season 5 in Game of Thrones is the bromance between Tyrion and Varys. Recall that Tyrion is to be executed after losing a trial by combat in the notorious Mountain vs. The Viper fight. Varys and his brother, Jaime came to his rescue by fabricating an escape plan that brings Tyrion out of Westeros but he decides to make a stop somewhere which may cost him his life for good.

Lastly, very minute is revealed what really happens to the Lannister patriarch after two arrows pierced it during Season 4's finale episode. If the King is dead then major changes are expected to transpire in Westeros for needless to say, Tywin Lannister is pivotal in its affairs. Is this the beginning of the fall of the Kingdom of Westeros?
