‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Reboot’ Movie Update: New director to drop Power Rangers trademark to adopt modern fight scenes

By

It's morphin' time. While everyone instantly went for a nostalgia trip after Lionsgate announced that they have tapped Dean Israelite to direct the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Reboot," we made a list of some of the "Power Rangers" trademarks that should not be included in the 2016 reboot.

The unnecessary flips and moves during transformation

Yes, the "Power Rangers" should show their karate chops and other martial arts moves but doing it before a combat is not really ideal (or realistic). In one of the fighting scenes in the 1995 "Mighty Morphin Power Ranger: The Movie," the underlings of the purple evil maniac Ivan Ooze were able to get away and hide from the Rangers due to their long and detailed transformation. Now, that's just unfortunate.

Color Rangers

After the adaptation of "Power Rangers" from a Japanese television drama "Super Sentai Series," Fox Kids must have thought that it is better if they were to create a group of racially diverse teenagers united to fight monsters. This would easily eliminate the issue of racism or stereotype among the cast somehow. Critics did not think so unfortunately, as racial stereotype is one of the initial criticisms to the show. Red Ranger was presented as the Native American of the group with savage fighting skills, Yellow Ranger was Asian and the best in martial arts combat not to mention the book smart in the group, while Black Ranger was black. These not-so-subliminal messages were probably not entertained by the children (the target audience of the show) at that time but the show even promoted these racial stereotypes as oppose to the endorse unity.

Japanese Clips

The "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" television shows used a lot of the original Japanese footage from the "Super Sentai Series" to probably reduce production cost. Lionsgate and Dean Israelite would probably make wise decisions this time around and not use those old clips anymore.

While others may say, "It's just a movie based on a children's program anyway," Lionsgate and Dean Israelite should consider that they are making a reboot and their main purpose is to revamp the "Power Rangers" and make them more relevant in this decade, where superheroes and gods are flying and smashing in theaters. They need to up their game. Or else, they might get an "Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi" from the remaining fans of the "Power Rangers."
