How to install Android 5.1 Nexus 7 2013 (Wi-Fi & LTE) factory images

Android 5.1 factory images for two Nexus 7 2013 versions are now downloadable. Links and instructions for installation are also provided below. Further, it is advised to backup all data.

Google has just released Android 5.1 factory images for Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi and LTE versions. The latest update comes out with build number LMY470. The Android 5.1 was supposedly a maintenance release. However, it now brings some important changes and bug fixes. The size of update is less than 200 MB. Users can expect update notifications to appear on their devices, or they can also choose to download and install factory images for both Nexus 7 versions. The Android 5.1 is called as 'razor' for the Wi-Fi version, and 'razorg' for the LTE version.

iDigitalTimes also gives detailed instructions for Android 5.1 factory image of Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi and LTE versions. Before installing the factory image of the LTE version, users are reminded:

  • If the Nexus 7 2013 LTE version is rooted, then owners will loose root access completely. In case a custom Recovery is installed, users will still loose it.
  • Backup all important data in the device
  • Charge battery over 40%.
  • Enable USB Debugging from Developer Options menu.
    • If the Developer Options menu is not seen, it needs to 'unhide.'
    • Go to Settings> About Phone and tap 7 times on the Build Number section
    • Go back to Developer Options, enable it, scroll down and then enable USB Debugging.

  • Make sure that the USB Debugging is enabled in the Developer Options menu.
