'Justice League: Gods and Monsters' Update: Darker Characters, Alternate Universe: Should We Forget About the Old Heroes We know and Love?

By

DC Universe fans will be in for a pleasant surprise when the direct-to-DVD "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" film is released this coming July. The animated movie's latest trailer shows darker, more brutal Justice League heroes, as it shows the heroes in an alternate universe different from what we're all used to.

"Justice League: God and Monsters has Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman as the main heroes, but not as what we know them. The animated film shows what they would be like in an alternate universe. Superman, for example, is shown here the son of General Zod. The film explores what the Man of Steel would be like if he was not raised by the Kents in Smallville.

Batman is also shown as a different entity. He's not Bruce Wayne, but rather a Vampiric man-bat. And Wonder Woman? Not your ordinary Diana Prince, Amazonian warrior princess. Wonder Woman here is the daughter of Ares, God of War. Even her costume is different, and not the usual stars and stripes.

Despite the difference from the good old Justice League that we all know and love, this alternate universe still show the heroes protecting the planet as the Earth's rulers, albeit using brute force to achieve justice. Needless to say, "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" is not made for kids, but parents can accompany their kids if they want to watch as the film can be a little more violent and brutal than usual.

"Justice League: Gods and Monsters" features an ensemble cast of celebrities voicing the heroes and villains of the film. Benjamin Bratt leads the cast as Superman, Michael C. Hall as Batman, Tamara Taylor as Wonder Woman, Paget Brewster as Lois Lane, C. Thomas Howell as Dr. Will Magnus, and Jason Isaacs as Lex Luther.

With darker characters and a more mature story line, older fans of the heroes will have a grand time with the plot twists and the alternate universe the film will show. "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" will be available in Blue-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD on July 28, 2015.
