Apple's upcoming iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 could possibly have the 7000 Series aluminum, which is currently included in the Apple Watch. It is said to be 60% stronger than most aluminum, is lightweight, and contains a third of the density of stainless steel.
UDN reportedly said that Apple's iPhone 7 could possibly come out with the 7000 Series aluminum for its look, which is presently used in the Apple Watch Sport. The custom Series 7000 aluminum alloy was designed to be 60% stronger than most aluminum, with one-third the density of stainless steel, while being a lightweight material.
MacRumors noted that each casing was machined, polished and blasted with microscopic zirconia beads to have a consistent satin texture found on each Apple Watch. The added anodized outer layer can also protect against scratches and corrosion.
"For Apple Watch Sport, we started with 7000 Series aluminium - the same used in competition bicycles. We altered it to create a new alloy that's just as light, yet even more durable - it's 60 per cent stronger than most aluminium, and one third the density of stainless steel. It has a bright, lustrous colour and a uniform structure free of defects and impurities. Each case is machined and polished, then blasted with microscopic zirconia beads to achieve a consistent, satin texture. A special anodising process creates a hard, clear outer layer that helps protect against scratches and corrosion," said Apple in its website.
The iPhone 6 devices were built with a unibody casing, using 6000 series anodized aluminum. It also featured stainless steel and titanium inserts, augmenting its high-stress locations. However, previous reports noted that there are bends in the iPhone 6 Plus. Apple responded that the bends are extremely rare. Nevertheless, it seems that Apple is bent on addressing these issues to prevent another "Bendgate."
Forbes noted Unbox Therapy's video that showed the iPhone 6 Plus bending at 110 pounds of pressure. The video went viral and presently has over 65 million views. A few months later, it was also revealed that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge as well bent at 110 pounds of pressure.
There is a possibility that the upcoming iPhone 7 (or iPhone 6S) could come out with the 7000 Series aluminum, similar to the Apple Watch. Apple was seen to be consistent in integrating features in its various products, such as the Retina Display in iPhone 4S now in iPads, iPods, MacBooks, and iMacs. Another is the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and the Force Touch feature.
