Gwyneth Paltrow and her family were only able to finish only four days out of the one-week Food Bank for New York City Food Stamp challenge. Despite having failed, the actress is said to have had a celebration by eating a gourmet meal.
4-DAY CHALLENGE
In her website Goop, Paltrow admitted that before she started the $29 food stamp challenge, she already doubted she would not make it. Thus, she donated to the organization but she and the Goop staff still continued with the test. The grocery items, which consisted mostly of fruits, vegetables, basic ingredients and other organic foods cost $24.40.
Out of these, they were able to prepare black bean taquitos with brown rice and green peas; black bean cakes with green corn salsa; and brown rice kale and roasted sweet potato sauté with poached eggs. She admitted that after four days, she had some chicken, fresh vegetables and half a bag of black licorice. She graded herself a C.
The food and lifestyle writer concluded that it was not easy to eat healthy with only a few dollars for a few days, something that millions of Americans experience every day. Paltrow also went on to say that she is not recommending that every one go organic but that people should be given access to nutritious but affordable food.
MIXED RESPONSE
The food and lifestyle writer however still did not escape from criticisms. A report says that Gwyneth Paltrow was spotted at Animal restaurant in Los Angeles, eating a $80 gourmet meal. This though has yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, the Food Bank for NYC responded to Paltrow by expressing their gratitude for the actress' commitment. "This challenge highlights obstacles SNAP recipients face each day. Together we can work to end hunger in our city", it said on Twitter.
Still, although she was not able to succeed in the food stamp challenge, Gwyneth Paltrow calls for equality in healthy food.
