Android 5.1.1 update for Nexus 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 Release Coming, Details and More

By

Whether done intentionally or not, Google's Audio Latency information page revealed two Nexus devices running an Android 5.1.1 OS with build numbers: LMY47W and LMY47S. There is still no official confirmation from Google about its release date. However, it is speculated that the company is getting close to finalizing the update.

The Nexus 9 and the Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi were caught running an Android 5.1.1 in Google's Audio Latency information page. The Nexus 7 2013 running the latest Lollipop had a build number LMY47W, while the Nexus 9 had LMY47S. But, it is not clear if these builds will be the official build number once the Lollipop comes out, since the build numbers were dated on Feb. 16.

Nevertheless, the page seems to imply that the tech-giant is working on a newer Android Lollipop build, and seem to be getting close to finalizing the update for these two devices. Further, this is not the first time that the Android 5.1.1 was spotted. Recent reports also noted that the latest version had been in the SDK Manager, which suggested that Google might have finalized the code.

This was as well confirmed previously by Android Police co-founder Artem Russakovski saying, "I'm told that Android 5.1.1 for both Android phones/tablets/etc and Wear will be released "in the coming days" (perhaps later this week or next week). Android Wear update may be released together or separately sometime after the main 5.1.1. I'm guessing Google may be just waiting for 5.1.1 to update N9, N4, and N7 2013. You should expect that gesture control and Wi-Fi in Wear 5.1, as previously rumored."

As of this writing, Google has not yet announced about the Android 5.1.1 version. Once the update comes out, the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, and Nexus 9 are expected to be the first devices eligible to receive it. It will also bring fixes on various bugs that the Android 5.0 had, such as the memory leak problem that crashed apps, slowed system performance, and bricked devices.

Currently, the Nexus 7 is run by Android 5.1 OS, which brought quick settings tweaks, screen pinning improvements, contact app improvements, system volume tweaks, new animations, device protection, HD voice calling, and dual-SIM support. On the other hand, the Nexus 9 is still running the Android 5.0.1 OS, which was first updated in November. This brought few bug fixes, including resolving issues with video playback and password failures handling.
