"The Hunger Games" movie franchise might not end just yet even after the release of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" later this year. Lionsgate expressed its interest to expand the series even more due to its massive success worldwide. Will the prequel feature more moments between Katniss and Gale? Fans are also anxious to watch the "Mockingjay Part 2" teaser trailer which will reportedly drop on the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" premiere.
The teaser trailer of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" has not even hit the theaters yet but it seems Lionsgate is already planning to extend the "The Hunger Games" franchise. The entertainment company announced that they have plans on milking the "HG" franchise even more by coming up with a possible sequel. A report said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer is currently looking for a possible back-story or continuation of the HG franchise and even referenced the "Fanstastic Beast and Where to Find Them," a "Harry Potter" prequel presently being pursued by Warner Bros.
"The Hunger Games" movie franchise, based on Suzanne Collins' book series, became a worldwide success that it is such a no-brainer if Lionsgate will go further with a sequel. While diehards of the book series already know that Katniss and Peeta will end up together, the prequel could provide lots of Katniss and Gale moments since the two are childhood best friends. In the "Mockingjay" book, the two drifted apart after Gale caused the death of Prim, Katniss' beloved sister. It was quite a sad ending for a friendship that was built early on and tested multiple times. Perhaps a sequel could provide a better ending for their story.
Even actress Jennifer Lawrence who plays Katniss Everdeen has expressed her love for the relationship of her character and Gale (played by Liam Hemsworth). She understands the rich history of both characters and even the complexities that surrounded them when Katniss entered the Games. Lawrence admits that they haven't fully explored the story of the characters in the movie adaptation. If Lionsgate will really press on a sequel, they could elaborate on the blooming Katniss and Gale love story.
"Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2" might not be capping the "Hunger Games" franchise just yet as Lionsgate is planning to make a possible sequel or a prequel connected to Suzanne Collins' book series. It is yet to be officially announced but fans of the franchise might just see more Katniss and Gale moments in the future. "Mockingjay Part 2" is said to make a theatrical premiere on the "Avengers: Age of Ultron" release date.
