Moto X (1st gen) owners in Brazil receive latest Android 5.1 update. U.S. owners can hope to have it 2-3 weeks. On the other hand, Motorola president Osterloch hinted an August-October 2015 release of the Moto X (3rd gen) device.
Moto X (1st gen) receives Android 5.1 update
Moto X (1st gen) users in Brazil can now receive the Android 5.1 update, which is said to be a lot similar to the original Android 5.0 OS. This was previously rolled out to the Moto X (2nd gen).
Once the Android upgrade is received, it will bring the following changelog:
o Design material
o UI and notification priorities
o New definitions of interruptions and downtime
o Recent applications (multitasking)
o Motorcycle
o Moto screen and screen environment
o Moto assist and sleep delay
o Flashlight
o Share your device
o Select a view/application
o Battery
o Links to more intelligent Internet
o Performance
o Smart lock (trusted devics)
As for U.S. devices, owners can hope to receive it in the "next 2-3 weeks. Typically US carriers have a long 4-6 week testing phase, but with it already rolling out in one region it's safe to assume the testing phase for carriers here in the states has already started. That means we could see the update arrive on Verizon, AT&T and others sometime in the next few weeks, or it could take 4-5 weeks before it arrives. It's hard to say, but we'll be on the lookout for more details," said Gotta Be Mobile.

Moto X (3rd gen) set for an August-October 2015 release
Meanwhile, Motorola's President Osterloch tweeted that the company is going to "stay on a roughly annual cycle for all our products, including Moto X", especially to the release date of the Moto X (3rd gen).
This was seen in Osterloch's response to a fan asking about the device.
Based on the president's reply, it seemed to give confirmation that Motorola is working on the Moto X device version, and a higher chance is seen that a new Moto X might be launched this year. Further, pointing to Motorola's release pattern, the company launched the Moto X (1st gen) in August. 2013. A year later, they rolled out the Moto X (2nd gen) in September. If Motorola follows the same pattern, it is speculated that the company might release the Moto X (3rd gen) between August and October 2015.
Nevertheless, Motorola has yet to confirm it.
