Sleepy Hollow Season 3 will continue where the Season 2 finale left off - with the resurrected Ichabod Crane and present-day police Lieutenant Abbie Mills now able to explore their relationship as partners and if fans would have it, as something more personal.
Fox released a synopsis of the upcoming season when the renewal of the show was announced in March.
"The jaw-dropping conclusion of Season 2 left Ichabod Crane and Lieutenant Abbie Mills with a decisive, albeit heartbreaking, victory over evil. In the name of good, Crane made the ultimate decision to kill his wife, Katrina Crane. With evil seemingly at bay, the third season will explore how the partnership between Crane and Mills will evolve and what challenges these two witnesses will now face."
In a TV Line interview, Tom Mison foresees that the new season would have to address the issue of guilt as his Ichabod character killed his wife to protect Abbie, and of Abbie killing his son. Mison is, however, upbeat on the boost the season 2 Finale gave the show saying, "It would definitely be a reboot. It certainly felt, after watching ["Awakening"], particularly the last 20 minutes of it, it certainly felt like we've acknowledged the show that everyone loved, and we can still do it."
Crane (Mison) and Mills (Nicole Beharie) are expected to once again together take up the challenge of keeping the town of Sleepy Hollow safe from evil - over a span of two and a half centuries.
The new season returning will have a new showrunner in the person of Clifton Campbell of "The Glades" and "White Collar."
TV Line also reports that Fox president David Madden has high hopes for the show as Campbell takes over, "I had the pleasure of working with Clifton on both 'The Glades' and 'White Collar'. He is an excellent producer, and we can't wait to see what this team has in store for Season 3."
For a while there was talk that Sleepy Hollow would not get renewed largely due to what Variety reports as the dismal slide in ratings from the 11.1 million viewers it had when it debuted in season 1, going down to 7.1 million in the second season.
Sleepy Hollow Season 3 premieres in the fall on Fox television.
