Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking has been known to talk about science stuff but in a recent holographic appearance at the Sydney Opera House, he took time to console distraught One Direction fans. He said that while it is not yet proven, the theory of multiple universes could something to hold on to for fans wanting to have Zayn Malik back with the boys.
"My advice to any heartbroken young girl is to pay close attention to the study of theoretical physics because one day there may be proof of multiple universes," said Stephen Hawking. His talk at the famed opera house was aided by a holographic projection, the image of which was streamed live from his home in Cambridge, UK. He appeared on stage with daughter Lucy Hawking and Paul Davies, another renowned physicist.
The famed scientist and known atheist did not just talk about Malik and his former group One Direction. His talk consisted of explaining how we understand the universe today and how much it differs from the past. He also talked about his experiences growing up in Britain during World War II. He narrated that he wasn't able to read until he reached the age of eight.
The quip about Zayn Malik still being with the band albeit in another universe came about when someone from the audience asked what the esteemed professor things about the cosmological effect of Malik leaving the band and the subsequent breaking of teenage girls' heart. He even went further than that. He said that if a teenage girl believes in the theory, it stands to reason that there is also another universe where she and Zayn Malik are happily married.
Although the question may have been asked as a jest and Hawking's response feels humorous, the theory about having different parallel universes is very serious. Of course, one cannot ask teenage One Direction fans to be able to truly understand the complicated theory that may sound simple enough.
