'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' Update: movie to focus on Peter Quill's father?

By

The first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film was a phenomenal hit with moviegoers and Marvel is looking to capitalize on it with the announcement that a sequel will come to theaters in 2017. While it is already being developed, writer-director James Gunn is in no rush.

The brain behind the movie admitted though that the sequel could look into the story about Peter Quill's father. Gunn also mentioned that the second movie would also shine light on the backstory of the other major characters.

The director revealed that he has already completed about 70 pages of the script and the studio has accepted it positively. The first reaction by the studio though is that the plot for the second movie is too risky. The first one was risky as well with old school music and unique humor. But critics and moviegoers both liked the movie.

Gunn is very active with social media and has been answering fan questions about the sequel through the Periscoe app. The latest bit of news about the sequel was posted on Periscope saying that production of the movie will officially start in February next year.

Aside from the already reported return of Nebula played by Karen Gillan, not much has been revealed about the story. The core group of Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and Bradley Cooper are expected to come back for the sequel though. The studio and the writer-director have yet to throw out any new names that could be joining the previous cast.

The first movie received very favorable reviews from critics. In the box office, the movie grossed more than $330 million in the United States alone. The estimated budget for the first movie was $170 million.
