Homeland Season 5 is still some months away but Carrie Mathison is already being "interrogated" about her new life on the Emmy award-winning show.
The most recent Mathison admissions were extracted directly from Homeland lead star Claire Danes who recently had a livestreamed interview for The New York Times' TimeTalks.
New York Times culture reporter Dave Itzkoff interviewed the Homeland star and his grilling revealed much of Danes' state of mind as Showtime's top Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer who is bi-polar and who risks her life and sanity to protect the nation.
Itzkoff started off the interview asking Danes about the effect of the show on her personally, whether she now takes more care with protecting her personal digital information. Danes responds that she is less internet-savvy but that she "took for granted that everything that's ever typed is being collected...My ignorance of social media protects me."
Another check by TimeTalks on the show's influence on its lead star had Itzkoff asking Danes whether she now is more sympathetic to the stories of the seemingly paranoid conspiracy theorists about government and intelligence gathering. Danes affirms this three times and goes on to say, "There is a whole other dimension out there."
Talking about how the character of Carrie was offered to her, Danes noted "she was always under duress and it didn't seem she would ever not be that made me pause" and that she appreciates the fact that the show's subject was "so immediately relevant with what's really happening in the world."
The romantic liaisons of her Mathison character have also led Danes to warn against getting involved with Carrie after she sabotages her relationship with Quinn (Rupert Friend).
Danes also told TalkTimes that their filming in Berlin is the first time in the show's 5 seasons that they would be filming in a location where they are actually supposed to be.
Homeland Season 5 is expected to return to Showtime television in October 2015.
