The Samsung Galaxy S5 proved to be the best flagship smart phone upon its release in 2014 with its super speedy performance, superb battery life, and captivating screen. And given the trend set by Samsung, it also produces a diminutive version of its high end smart phones. Thus the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini was born.
High expectations were given to the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini, however, it proved to have some lapses as compared to its older brother. The processor for one is slightly less powerful as compared to the original S5. The S5 uses a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 chipset which is considerably faster as compared to other smart phones but its S5 mini proved to be slower in terms of browsing given that it runs on 1.4 GHz Exynos 3470 processor.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 mini also has a poor graphic performance as compared to the S5 according to the test results posted by Expert Reviews.
"...as the S5 Mini struggled to get above 20fps in all three of our 3DMark Ice Storm tests. It scored 3,558 in Ice Storm Unlimited, which translates to 19.5fps, and 2,841 in Ice Storm Extreme, which averaged at 15.2fps. The S5, by comparison, maxed out Ice Storm Extreme and scored a huge 18,451 in Ice Storm Unlimited, which equates to more than 60fps. Comparing the S5 Mini to simiarly priced handsets was equally dissapointing with both the Moto X and Nexus 5 clearly outscoring it in every test."
Another downgrade from the S5 is the camera of its mini version. The S5 had a 16 MP camera whereas the S5 mini had an 8 MP shooter. However, despite the difference in the mega pixels, the Galaxy S5 mini still proves to outclass other smart phones.
But despite all these downgrade as others would say, the battery life is still impressive. The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a considerably smaller battery but it could still last for 14 hours and 57 minutes at half brightness level. This is still not bad considering that the S5 can last for 17 hours and 30 minutes.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is still a competent smart phone. Although, others might claim that its slow speed does not justify its cost, especially at times like this, when the original S5 or even the Samsung Galaxy Alpha can be obtained with the same price as the mini version.
