Metal Gear Solid 5 Release Date Marks The End of Kojima’s Ties with Konami, Hint of Company-wide Kojima “Clean-up” Spurs

By

Hideo Kojima, the brains of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and practically the whole series will officially end his ties with Konami after the latest game is released this September. However, the imminent departure of such a genius can create a giant wake that may place Konami in a wobble. The real reason for Kojima and Konami parting ways is not yet clear, but the company seemed to be trying to erase every mark Kojima has ever made.

IGN has made a timeline to show the series of events between Kojima and Konami during the past few months.

Apparently at first, Konami executives planned to erase everything Kojima by removing the developer's name off the company's website and every marketing material related to him. Kojima productions was renamed Konami digital entertainment and Kojima's name was erased from the box art of Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain. Though on April 2, for reason's unknown, Kojima's name was again placed on Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy collection and Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater.

The doctor plans on suing Konami, demanding compensation for the unauthorized use of his image, but is thankful for the free publicity hype that made him famous overnight. Though many are spreading rumors that the whole thing is a charade to either promote the Doctor's head transplant project or a publicity stunt by Kojima, it can't be confirmed. Unless the Doctor continues his legal action and drag Kojima and Konami to the courts, rumors will continually spread like wildfire.

Furthermore, even in the midst of controversy, Kojima twitted that he received a new GEMINI album, which coincidentally is also one of the major codenames for Dr. Canavero's head transplant project.

This is another blow to the teetering Kojima-Konami relationship, which may cement Konami's decision to part ways. Though both Kojima and Konami show their cooperation when interviewed by the media, their actions blatantly speaks otherwise.
